How to import a firearm into South Africa
Visitors bringing firearms into South Africa for hunting purposes, will be asked to fill in a SAP 520 – Temporary Import Application which can be downloaded here (download SAP 520 Form), or which can be filled out on arrival.
We would suggest filling in the form beforehand. (Download the instructions)

What to pack for my visit?
- Comfortable light hiking shoes
- Light khaki or camouflages clothes
- Good quality binoculars 8 x 40 or 10 x 42 magnification
- Sun protection (Sunglasses and Sun lotion)
- Insect repellant
- Hat
- Sweater or Jacket as temperatures in the hunting season varies from 32 F in the morning to 70 F in the day.
- Personal toiletries
- Flashlight with spare batteries
- Folding knife
- Lip chap Rifle shell holders – belt carrier
- Travel documents (Passport that is valid for 6 months after return date to USA, Firearm documentation, Airline tickets, Travel Insurance, money, medical records as required)
- Phone numbers (Foreign and local contacts)
- Confirmation of hotels, Car rental etc
What is included in the daily rate?
- service of a licensed professional hunter
- Use of a fully equipped 4×4 hunting vehicle
- All local drinks, soft drinks, bottled water etc.
- All staff at the Ranch, trackers, chefs and waiters
- Field preparation of trophy’s, Skinning, salting and transporting to taxidermist
Not included
- Transfer from Johannesburg (Oliver Tambo International airport), this can be arranged for $800 per group of maximum 7 people.
- Expenses occured before Safari Commences and after Hunting
- Gratuities to Staff
- Taxidermy work on trophy’s and shipping
- Rifle hire ($50 per day per rifle)
- All animals wounded will be paid in full.
- Alcohol at cost price
How to get to the game ranch?
There are 4 options:
- Fly to Johannesburg and book a transfer with us for $ 1250 per group of max 7 persons
- Fly to Polokwane (via Johannesburg) and get a transfer for free to the game ranch.
- Fly to the game ranch. There is a landing strip on the ranch.
- Drive to the game ranch

Terms and conditions
Deposit
A deposit of 20% is required upon booking your hunting safari. The balance is payable upon completion of the safari. On regular safaris only trophies taken or wounded are charged for.
Cancellation
If the hunting safari is cancelled, cancellation fees will be due and payable according to the following: More than 45 days prior to arrival 90% of the total safari price is refunded. 30 to 45 days prior to arrival 80% of the total safari price is refunded. 15 to 30 days prior to arrival 50% of the total safari price is refunded. Less than 15 days prior to arrival no refund
Liability
The Hunting Outfitter shall not be liable for any damage, losses and expenses suffered by any client as a result of sickness, quarantine, weather conditions, war, strikes, riots or any other cause outside our control. The Hunting Outfitter accepts no liability in respect of death, injury, loss or damage to person or property arising out of any act, omission or negligence. The client shall be deemed to have waived, renounced and abandoned any and all right or entitlement which the client may be entitled to under the provisions of the law of the Republic of South Africa for any loss or damage to person or property. The Hunting outfitter shall not be liable for any loss or expense arising from the loss of property, cancellation or curtailment of the hunting safari however caused, save only to the extent that such loss of baggage, cancellation or curtailment was caused by the Hunting Outfitters negligence.
Jurisdiction
In all matters where it is or may be necessary to have recourse to the Court, the Courts of the Republic of South Africa shall have sole jurisdiction to the exclusion of the Courts of any other country and the prevailing law of the Republic of South Africa shall prevail.
